The Archiveus trojan password

Virus analysts at Sophos, the online security company, have cracked the Arhiveus trojan, a piece of malicious software that held victims’ files to ransom.
The Arhiveus password is deliberately long and complicated in an attempt by the hackers to avoid people easily cracking it," Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos, said. "Now the password has been uncovered, there should be no reason for anyone hit by this ransomware attack to have to make any payments to the criminals behind it."

Microsoft launched its consumer desktop security service May 30. As expected, the final version of the OneCare service boasts anti-virus and firewall protection, along with automatic PC security updates, and anti-spyware tools built around the same technology used in Microsoft's stand-alone Windows Defender
ongtime anti-virus and intrusion detection specialist McAfee introducing a rival offering in hopes of blocking the software giant's bid to help lock down home PCs.
Anti-virus leader Symantec has launched a counter-attack with the announcement of a new consumer PC security service to be branded Norton 360.
The security service will include online identity theft protection, backup and PC tune-up capabilities.
Microsoft 'mulls eBay purchase'

The rumour is that Microsoft is in talks with eBay about a possible takeover. The news came just after eBay agreed a wide-ranging partnership deal with Yahoo!
The New York Post quoted "multiple sources" that Microsoft is considering buying eBay and merging it with MSN, though the paper said talks had "cooled somewhat" as execs considered anti-trust issues. Read the whole story here.

The company Mac fanatics love to hate is expanding its non-Windows product lineup.
Microsoft today announced it plans to release its first Mac-specific keyboard and mouse. The Wireless Desktop for Mac is due out this summer for a suggested price of $99.95.
WDM is the first Mac-specific desktop product from Microsoft and the first keyboard from the company not to include the Windows Start button. The keyboard layout is consistent with keyboards designed for the Macintosh and is compatible with Apple's latest Intel-based Macs as well as older PowerPC models.

A California appeals court has refused to order two Apple computer fan Web sites to reveal their sources for information about company products.
Apple argued that the two sites, PowerPage and AppleInsider, are not legitimate news organizations protected by California`s shield law for reporters, The Wall Street Journal reported. The judges overturned a lower court ruling that the sites misappropriated proprietary information on an Apple music-recording product with the code name Asteroid.
The two sites were backed by the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

Record numbers of people are downloading pornography from the Internet.
More than nine million men - almost 40 per cent of the adult male population - logged on to sex websites last year, more than four times as many as the estimated two million in 2000.
The number of women downloading Internet porn soared 30 per cent to 1.4million.
The research found men and women who visited such sites spent 40 minutes on average each month looking at images.
